Changes to web site and forums

In the near future, changes will be taking place on the CC of CC web site and forums.

At present, all of the forums are open to all registered users for reading as well as posting. Open forums are in some ways a magnet for spammers (and sometimes, worse). In our case, both happened on Sept 15 when the avatar upload process was hacked and a trojan horse script was found where it could have done serious damage to the site and security. Nothing was done to the CC of CC site but the same small hole in the forum software caused damage at more than 400 other sites.

This has led to a rethinking of several processes and procedures on the site which will result in the following changes:

Most forums will remain open to reading but posting will be restricted to Club members.

As requested, portions of the web site will also become members-only.

There will be a single username/password for both the web site and the forums.

Non-members will still be able to register for forums access and the ability to post to the general information forum. The ability to post to all other forums will be eliminated.

Existing club members who have forums accounts will soon get a new email confirmation message similar to the forums-only message when they initially registered. The message will contain a link that when followed will enable their web site account. You will need to login on the web site with your existing password. Your password must be changed before you can access the web site or post in the forums.

Accounts will be created for members that do not now have forums accounts that will grant access to both web site content and forums in one step.

Members will be able to change their email addresses and passwords from the "My Account" section on the web site.

Non-members with only forums access will not have the ability to change either their password or email address. Non-members who become members will have full access granted upon receipt of membership dues.
