Section: Black Moshannon Creek, Centre County to Moshannon Creek (Red Mo)
Distance: 3.8 miles
Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Class II – III (Watch for strainers!)
The Black Mo is our local whitewater gem. When it goes, every whitewater boater in the Centre County region comes down with a collective flu to get out of other responsibilities in order to rush up the mountain to hop on this fun ride.
The put-in for The Black Mo is located at the Gorton Road crossing near the village of Moshannon. This run is quick and exciting–perfect for multiple laps. Long and sometimes steep rapids greet you around every turn slowing down only slightly and just long enough for you to have a quick glance at the beautiful surroundings of this secluded creek.
You will know when you have reached the end of the run when you come crashing out of the woods into the aptly named Red Mo. The take-out is on the river left under the Rt. 53 bridge.
